Hey you all! You may have noticed that my bookhauls for the months August and September were missing. I decided to wait with posting these hauls because they were kind of … pathetic haha. If it wasn’t for giveaways and review copies I probably wouldn’t have had any books to show you guys and girls. Luckily, Lady Luck favors the broke đ
When I wanted to take a picture of the spines of the books in my bookhaul the pile of books promptly keeled over, which resulted in this picture that made me laugh really hard, because somehow it looks kind of cool.
Four of these books I got for free đ I won Yuval Noah Harari’s Homo Deus in a giveaway by the magazine Libelle, I won Bloedwetten: Verlossing (English translation: Bloodlaws: Redemption) by Sophia Drenth in a Facebook giveaway by the author and Nienke Pool, I won Een fijne neus voor liefde (The secret of a heartnote) by Stacey Lee in a giveaway by HarperCollins Young Adult and I got Ster van Acht (Angel Star) by Jennifer Murgia as a review copy for Dutch Venture Publishing. The remaining two books I bought for a project I’m working on and will tell you more about when I’m finished đ
So, what are these books about? (note: I added two descriptions in Dutch because these books will probably not be translated to English any time soon)
Homo Deus: A brief history of tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari:
Over the past century humankind has managed to do the impossible and rein in famine, plague, and war. This may seem hard to accept, but, as Harari explains in his trademark styleâthorough, yet rivetingâfamine, plague and war have been transformed from incomprehensible and uncontrollable forces of nature into manageable challenges. For the first time ever, more people die from eating too much than from eating too little; more people die from old age than from infectious diseases; and more people commit suicide than are killed by soldiers, terrorists and criminals put together. The average American is a thousand times more likely to die from binging at McDonalds than from being blown up by Al Qaeda.
What then will replace famine, plague, and war at the top of the human agenda? As the self-made gods of planet earth, what destinies will we set ourselves, and which quests will we undertake? Homo Deus explores the projects, dreams and nightmares that will shape the twenty-first centuryâfrom overcoming death to creating artificial life. It asks the fundamental questions: Where do we go from here? And how will we protect this fragile world from our own destructive powers? This is the next stage of evolution. This is Homo Deus.
Bloedwetten: Verlossing by Sophia Drenth (description in Dutch):

Storytelling in 12 stappen (English translation:Â Storytelling in 12 steps) by Mieke Bouma (description in Dutch):
